Expectations (are a reality)!

#expectationsvsreality has been trending for half a decade on social media - we know it, we've laughed along with it, it's provided some very real, very wholesome light relief for most of us.

But what about when they stop being funny? So many clients face this challenge - and it's not just about whether the challenges are external or internal and what they are - it's often also to do with the parameters we put on ourselves.

'I should be able to do this because so-and-so can'or 'if so-and-so can do this and this, and still do such-and-such then i must really be lacking'. How many of us have uttered those words and given ourselves a harder time than anyone else could possibly do?

I work with my clients to take a breath, take a step back, find their boiling point. Because what is so poignant in all of this is that everyone's tolerance is different. All liquids have a different boiling point, and that it's ok to know yours.

Managing expectations, both internal and external, and most importantly how to navigate your boiling point if and when you reach it, is a key part of navigating this world, and it's ok to struggle. It's normal to compare ourselves. But how about we try and make it normal to be kind to ourselves instead?
